What was the moment that made you say to yourself, “I want to be a Twitch streamer?”
Having made content on other platforms (YouTube) and loving the interaction with my viewers (comments), I wanted to take it even further. So the moment my internet speed allowed it, I started streaming!
If there’s anything you could go back and tell yourself before starting out in this industry, what would it be?
I would tell myself to find a consistent schedule (whatever it might be) and to follow it religiously. No one would ever follow a radio program that starts at random times, so why should my streams be different? Your viewers will fill the gaps in their daily routines with your content and you’ll be a part of their days. If I trace the real spike in growth of my channel, I know for a fact that it began when I began to use a schedule.
What are some recommendations you have for people that want to grow their Twitch channel?
Pay attention to the questions you get asked often. They give you hints about what your audience is interested in and what you can bring to the table. Have you noticed that people are looking for something that’s hard to find in whatever niche you are occupying? It’s time to be a step ahead of others and produce the content that people want but can’t find elsewhere. Becoming the go-to source for something (anything!) carries a lot of weight. Don’t be afraid to create content on other platforms where it can be discovered more easily. Viewers will follow you into Twitch from there.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of streaming?
I played casual chess back in college and these days I still enjoy watching chess events and commentary. I don’t play it a lot myself but it’s still one of my guilty pleasures.
What is something your viewers may be surprised to learn about you?
They would be surprised to know that I developed my own indie game along with a friend many years ago. Although I’m too embarrassed to make it public, the game is still out there and the skills I picked up along the way have been a huge help for my content.
What has been the most memorable moment of your streaming career so far?
It happened on March 21, 2019. After months of practice and countless failed attempts, I finally managed to be the first person to beat all of the bosses in Dark Souls 2 without taking a hit. It was a challenge so difficult that almost no one had ever attempted it, since it seemed downright impossible. But after sinking enough hours into it, the impossible became unlikely and the unlikely became doable. My audience had been there every failed run, every reset, even the times where we made it until the end only to die to the final boss (twice!). But on that day, we finally got it! It was a tremendously satisfying feeling that’s almost hard to describe.
