Have you heard? The Dual Output feature for Streamlabs Desktop has officially arrived! If you are a multistreamer with a penchant for streaming or recording simultaneously for horizontal and vertical platforms, you’ll be excited to learn how Dual Output can help you easily create content for both. For example, if you’re streaming to YouTube, you can also simultaneously stream to TikTok (so long as you qualify for live streaming on the platform and have a stream key). Keep reading to learn more about how Dual Output can enhance your live streams!
What Is Streamlabs Desktop Dual Output?
Even if you have a platform like Twitch that may be your bread and butter, being in multiple places at once allows you to reach a larger audience—particularly short-form video platforms such as TikTok or Instagram, where people can watch from the convenience of their phone.
Dual Output allows you to easily create and share horizontal and vertical resolutions simultaneously while streaming or recording using Streamlabs Desktop. This means that while you’re streaming on Twitch or YouTube, for example, you can also stream to one short-form video platform of your choice, such as TikTok or Instagram, for free without cutting out any sections of your well-designed scenes. Other things to know about Dual Output:
- Scenes and Sources are shared automatically between the two canvases, but creators can toggle their visibility on and off on either as needed.
- Creators can easily and quickly swap between saved vertical and horizontal settings when single streaming.
- Stream to additional horizontal and vertical platforms with Multistreaming as part of Streamlabs Ultra
How to Use Streamlabs Desktop Dual Output
Now that you know how Streamlabs Desktop Dual Output can help you enhance your streaming and pre-recorded content, it’s time to get going. Below is a walkthrough of how to use the feature, from creating default settings to going live.
Dual Output Settings
Let’s start by ensuring you have at least one platform connected to your account that requires a horizontal canvas and one that requires a vertical one.
- Go to Settings, then select Stream.
- Select the Connect button next to the platforms you want to connect to Streamlabs Desktop.
- Once you’ve connected the desired accounts, it’s time to set your default settings for these platforms. Select Video from the Settings menu.
- Toggle on Enable Dual Output.
P.S.: With the latest Dual Output update, you can now enable the feature by toggling the new button located at the top of the Sources panel in your Streamlabs Desktop Editor. This intuitive feature streamlines the process, allowing you to set up your dual broadcast in seconds.
Changing Horizontal and Vertical Video Settings
The great thing about Dual Output is that it allows you to have completely different settings for horizontal and vertical platforms. Below are the instructions for creating settings for each.
- If you are still in the Video menu, continue. Otherwise, from the Settings menu, select Video.
- With Dual Output enabled, you should see a screen with Horizontal and Vertical labeled at the top as separate tabs.
- Under each tab, you can tweak the resolution and FPS settings as needed for each respective canvas type.
- Once you’ve changed your settings, click Done to save your changes.
Going Live with Dual Output
Once you’ve updated your settings, it’s time to set up your scenes and go live!
- First, make sure that what you want to appear on your canvas is positioned to your liking. Each element can be moved separately on the vertical and horizontal output previews, and elements can be shown on both outputs or only one. To disable and enable any source on either canvas, simply toggle the option on or off by hovering over the source in your Sources Panel. You can also completely delete the source if you wish.
- Click the green Go Live button towards the bottom right of your screen in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Select the two platforms you want to stream to and choose whether you want to stream your horizontal or vertical display for each platform. Here, you can also set titles and descriptions for the live stream (for each platform).
- Select the Confirm & Go Live button. Happy creating!
That’s it! You’re ready to rock and roll using a horizontal and vertical canvas to stream on multiple platforms without multiplying the work to make it happen. FYI, if you’re a Streamlabs Ultra subscriber, you can stream up to four destinations using the Dual Output feature.
