The year 2020 has perhaps had more natural disasters than any other on record. Now more than ever, people are in need of help. At Streamlabs, we want to shine a spotlight on charities that are doing amazing work in support of crucial causes.
If you’re thinking about hosting a charity stream, we recommend considering Direct Relief.
Direct Relief
Direct Relief is a registered 510(c)(3) that has delivered over $800,000,000 in medical aid and over 6,500,000 pounds of medicine and supplies to individuals impacted by natural disaster. Direct Relief works in the U.S. and internationally to equip doctors and nurses with life-saving medical resources to care for the world’s most vulnerable people.
In response to the catastrophic wildfires across California, Oregon, and Washington, Direct Relief’s supported with respirators, oxygen concentrators, and other medical resources to over 200 state and county health agencies, community health centers, and clinics in fire-affected areas.
In addition, the organization is donating Wildfire Health Kits to health centers and public health agencies. Each kit is designed to enable the treatment of about 250 people for 3 to 5 days, with medicines and supplies most requested by healthcare providers in past wildfire emergencies.
To date, Direct Relief has delivered more than 20 emergency shipments of requested PPE, medicine, supplies and equipment to health facilities and emergency response agencies, and is preparing another series of deliveries that will arrive next week.
Hurricane Laura
More than 500,000 people were under evacuation orders for Hurricane Laura. Each hurricane season, Direct Relief stages hurricane prep modules strategically in vulnerable areas, providing partner health facilities with the medications and medical supplies they’ll need in a storms’ wake.
As climate change continues to increase the frequency and intensity of Hurricanes, support provided by organizations like Direct Relief will become more and more critical.
COVID-19
Direct Relief is working in overdrive to get protective gear and critical care medications to as many health workers as possible, as quickly as possible, with emergency deliveries leaving daily for medical facilities across the U.S.
Since January, Direct Relief has delivered more than 30 million N95 and surgical masks, more than 7 million gloves, more than 1 million face shields and tens of thousands of protective suits and other items to help safeguard health workers.
