Holler Health Justice (HHJ) is a BIPOC- and queer-led abortion fund and nonprofit offering practical and financial abortion support, free emergency contraception, and other mutual aid throughout West Virginia and Appalachia.
Organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice, we build power with communities and individuals most disproportionately affected by health inequities, including Black, Indigenous, and people of color, those in rural areas, those with low income, and LGBTQIA+ folk.
Since 2019, we’ve helped more than 1,300 people access abortion throughout West Virginia, Appalachia, and beyond. We’ve funded over $375,000 in financial and practical abortion support and dispersed over 20,500 units of free emergency contraception across the region.
With only one abortion clinic remaining in West Virginia, and increased abortion access restrictions throughout the country, many of our clients already must travel not only out of state but across multiple states, to access abortion care.
Roe v. Wade has never ensured access to abortion care, especially for those disproportionately affected by health inequities, including people of color, those in rural areas, those with low income, and LGBTQIA+ folk. The reality is, that financial barriers, the Hyde Amendment, local and state restrictive laws (especially TRAP laws), and lack of abortion clinics and support in rural, immigrant, low-income, and other underserved communities already make abortion access extremely difficult for so many people.
Regardless of Roe v. Wade, there will always be people who need assistance accessing abortion care, and Holler Health Justice will be here to help them.
The work we do is only made possible by contributions from our supporters (individual donations account for three-quarters of our revenue!). Because grant funding covers our overhead, 100% of your donation goes directly toward our mutual aid programs and services, including abortion funding and practical support — meaning, not only the financial cost of the abortion procedure but also the resources and logistics needed for someone to actually access abortion care, such as:
🏥 appointment-related care;
🚗 volunteer drivers;
⛽️ gas costs;
✈️ airfare;
🏨 lodging;
🍽 travel meals;
🤱🏽 childcare;
⚖️ legal fees;
💳 ID obtainment;
🗣 translation services; and
💗 emotional support resources.
Let’s fund abortion and build power in Appalachia together. Donations of all sizes make an impact.
⦁ $250 can help provide travel assistance to someone in Appalachia needing to access abortion care outside of their state.
⦁ $500 (the average cost of a medication abortion in West Virginia) can provide an abortion to someone who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
⦁ $1,000 can help us disperse 1,280 units of free Plan B emergency contraception across West Virginia.
(Sidenote: As an organization founded by and made up of BIPOC and queer GAMERS, we are so excited to team up with Streamlabs Charity and finally combine two of our passions: video games and funding abortion!)
