Let’s talk about Hope.
Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen, and here at Hope for
the Day, we hope for a better world. A world where all people have equal and easy access to
proactive suicide prevention and mental health education resources — where mental health
challenges carry no negative societal stigmas.
Hope for the Day is a non-profit movement, founded in 2011, empowering the conversation on
proactive suicide prevention and mental health education.
Each year, we lose over 700,000 people around the world to suicide. Suicide is a preventable
mental health crisis, and we believe the best way to reduce these statistics is by shattering the
silence of stigma. By being proactive in our suicide prevention efforts, we can save lives.
Our proactive suicide prevention work is made up of three main components that help us spread
hope and save lives: Outreach, Education, and Action.
Proactive suicide prevention starts with a conversation. Instead of waiting for individuals to
come to us, we meet people where they’re at in their community — schools, coffee shops,
concerts, community events, and more. We also raise the visibility of resources and information
to break the silence of stigma.
We believe that by understanding more about mental health, we can dispel those stigmas that
keep us silent. That’s why we offer signature education programming inspired by lived
experience best practices and endorsed by H.F.T.D.’s clinical advisory board. Our work aims to
provide tools for early recognition and intervention to disrupt the highest risk factors for mental
health crises and suicide.
By mobilizing individuals and communities to foster proactive environments, we can equip
people with the tools to take action on their own mental health and be supportive of peers in
their communities. This is where the streaming community comes in. By streaming for Hope for
the Day, you are encouraging honest conversations in your community and helping even more
people take action.
It only takes one person to make someone feel heard, accepted or cared for, and just one of
those feelings could save someone’s life.
We understand how limited resources have historically prevented communities from receiving
access to mental health information. It is our goal to reduce those barriers by providing free
resources and education whenever possible. That is largely made possible due to the generous
donations we receive through fundraising.
How exactly do some of those donations break down?
● $10 will cover the cost of attending our E-learning Workshop for one individual!
● $50 will cover the cost of resources for one classroom!
● $130 will cover the cost of a free community mental health education workshop!
● $250 will cover the cost of sending a resource kit to a school!
When we say no dollar amount is too small - we mean it! We make sure that 100% of all
donations go towards providing mental health education programming and resources so that
people feel empowered to start the conversation about mental health in their own communities.
Over the course of 2022, we educated over 3,000 people, connected with 45,000 folks during
events, and distributed over 121,000 mental health resources. We also had 541 incredible
individuals donate their time and expertise by streaming for us on Twitch.
By continuing to partner with our streaming community, we are looking to create an even larger
impact this year. Our goal is to educate even more people, hand out more resources, and
spread the message of HOPE to as many people as possible.
Every day we remind people that they are not alone in their mental health challenges, and IT’S
OK NOT TO BE OK! We hope you will join us to remind people they are not alone and it’s ok to
talk about their mental health. We cannot do this without your support; we are all in this
together!
